Bang, Bang, Bang!

Do you know how many types of dance music there are?  Disco, New Wave, Synthpop, Funk, House, Acid House, Techno, Freestyle, Electro, Eurodisco, Italo Disco, Hi-NRG, Eurodance, Euro House, Progressive House, Techno, Trance, New Jack Swing, Drum & Bass, Happy Hardcore, UK Garage, Trance, Electropop, Snap Music, Crunk, Dance Punk, Nu-Disco, Electro House, Minimal Techno, Dubstep, R&B, Hip hop Drum and Bass.  To name a few.  So ask yourself, why is it that every Circuit Party in the USA plays Tribal/Drum & Bass?  This is not the case in other countries, on gay cruises, or even most nightclubs.  Why has The Circuit turned into a cacophony of pots and pans from 3pm beach parties to 6am after parties?

The answer is that DJs don’t get it, and promoters don’t demand otherwise.  DJs have become more than divas, playing what they **think** the crowd wants to hear.  They figure since everyone is dancing, it must be good. But after paying $75 or over for an event, is anyone really going to go home if they don’t like the music?  Events lack the creative flow of early, late, and morning music.  On gay cruises and at large events in Europe, the music spans the spectrum from Trance to Tribal, Disco to HI-NRG.  And everyone loves it, including Americans who have been beaten down by the non-stop percussion for so long.

Thankfully circuit parties play tribal house in the us and not drum and bass.Drum and bass would empty most gay events with a quickness.Youtube or download some things tagged with drum and bass for reference.Haha!Would you rather some gaga?Prope for the nu disco recognition. We need more of that sexyness.

Amen indeed. I blame the promoters for brainwashing the crowd to expect nothing but dated tribal.  Some of the DJs know better but play that crap because the promoters ask for it and/or they think the crowd expects it. I think the main reason the circuit is dying/shrinking is the music. Younger gays and hipsters house-heads don’t want to listen to music that went out of fashion over ten years ago. They’ve now embraced events like Coachella where the DJ talent is top notch, the production values are 10x greater, and ticket prices are lower.

If circuit parties starting booking house and progressive DJs, I’d be back there in a heartbeat.

What about us who like to get lost in the music without the distraction of lyrics?  There’s nothing worse than seeing a hot man on the dance floor waving his hands in the air, singing along to “I’m Every Woman”!
