Discipline
Janet Jackson
Discipline is the first album since Velvet Rope to feel inspired from beginning to end; the last few have been plagued by well-written ballads with bland production (slow still has to sound good) and dance tracks that sounded more trend-following (“So Excited”) than trend-setting (“if”). Janet loves her sex, and she loves to sing about it. Just about everything notable she’s done in the last 15 years has been about or was inspired by sex. So with a title like Discipline, you know her heart’s in it. The album’s chock full of radio-friendly singles that promises to keep Janet in the public consciousness, but after seeing that cover, I could’ve done with a bit more naughty sex content.
