I Love Miami
Peter Rauhofer
So Peter’s a Circuit god or whatever, but did you know he’s also a fitness model? And an avid surfer and all around beach bum? See, who says Austrians don’t know how to let go and let flow? And who says Photoshop’s pixel magic isn’t the 8th wonder of the world?
Peter’s back with even more warm and cozy, hard-as-pink steel beats in the “I Love…” series, this time partnering Star 69’s own roster of stars like Sizequeen, Starkillers, and Offer Nissim feat. Maya with a handful of remixed pop artists like Royksopp, Goldfrapp, and Depeche Mode, along with dawning powerhouses like Outwork feat. McGee, Kobbe & Austin Leeds (Land Of Voodoo), DJ Chus David Penn, and Dirty German. Peter’s remix abilities have been commissioned by a number of mainstream Top 40 artists lately including Justin Timberlake, Madonna, and Nelly Furtado, but the mixes never seem to make it onto the final tracklistings for the maxi singles. So what does Peter do when the record labels don’t honor all the time and effort he put into these kick-ass productions? He releases them as slightly altered dubs on his own disc. Titled simply “Sexy,” Peter’s unreleased mix for Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack” comes to us as a beefed-up dub, void of Justin’s vocals save for a few severely filtered, stuttered samples, and layered with some gutter whore’s pre-orgasmic moans and a couple well placed instances of “That’s hot!” courtesy of Paris Hilton’s “Turn It Up.” Some of the highlights of Miami include “Scream,” Starkillers’ follow-up to the mega-hit “Discoteka” (also included); “Elektro,” the sickly simple and catchy anthem from Outwork featuring Mr. Gee (which contains inclusive lyrics that call out the names of both opposite and same-sex couples within the lyrics’ context - it’s hard to explain, just listen to it); the unreleased “Peter Is In Love” mix of Offer Nissim & Maya’s cover of House of Prince’s “Perfect Love”; and “Bodyshaker” by Kobbe & Austin Leeds, a thundering Circuit demolition in the same vein as Oscar G & Ralph Falcon’s “Dark Beat.” And an extra gold star is due to Peter for recognizing the stark beauty of “Rej” by Ame, easily one of the most amazing instrumental tracks in recent and not-so-recent memory, occupying the heralded “last track” position on this 2-disc set.
The sand is hot even at midnight in Miami, and with Peter pumping the city’s “baby oil ‘n’ rollerblades” atmosphere through your subwoofer, even the coldest of nights become a steamy dance floor of sweaty muscle. Get it, ladies.
